Costi Lungu

Costi Lungu, a craftsman based in Humulești, has revived the almost forgotten craft of making axes, cudgels, and shepherd’s staff. Some are inlaid, some are decorated with tin foil, some staffs have men’s faces engraved on their tops. It is an extremely meticulous process since metal must be turned into thin foil on a calendar and then struck on the object with special tools but the outcome is spectacular. The patterns are traditional, inspired by objects stored in well-known Romanian museums, such as The Museum of the Romanian Peasant, Astra Museum of Sibiu, the Ethnographic Museum in Rădăuți, and the Ethnographic and Folklore Museum in Piatra Neamț.
