A captivating debate on the power of ideas in the democratic space, featuring two of the most prominent intellectuals of our time—Ioan Stanomir and Radu Vancu—as part of the Creativity Conferences, a key event within Romanian Creative Week 2025.

Taking place in Iași on May 14, 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30, at Teatru la Cub Hall (Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre), this discussion will offer profound insights into how ideas shape society, culture, and political life.

Ioan STANOMIR – Essayist, professor of Constitutional Law, and political analyst, widely recognized for his reflections on history and the fragility of democracy.

Radu VANCU – Poet, essayist, and university professor, an influential public voice actively engaged in defending democratic values and freedom of expression.

Together, they will explore how ideas influence socio-political dialogue and the evolution of Romanian society.

Ioan Stanomir

Ioan Stanomir is a writer and professor of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest.

His published works include: A Disappeared World: Four Personal Histories Followed by a Dialogue with H.-R. Patapievici (2004), The Conservative Spirit: From Barbu Catargiu to Nicolae Iorga (2008), The Russian Sphinx: Ideas, Identities, and Obsessions (2015), Communism Inc. (co-authored with Angelo Mitchievici, 2016), Russia, 1917: The Bloodstained Sun. Autocracy, Revolution, and Authoritarianism (2017), At the Centennial: Rereading the Century of Greater Romania (2018). In 2018, he contributed the essay The Shadow of Russia to the collective volume The Russians Are Coming! Five Perspectives on a Dangerous Neighborhood, published by Humanitas.

Radu Vancu

Radu Vancu

Radu VANCU is a writer and professor at the Faculty of Letters and Arts, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu.

His published works include: Epistles for Camelia (2002), Sebastian in a Dream, Tracus Arte (2010), Memories for My Father (2010), Elegy for the Human. A Critique of Poetic Modernity from Pound to Cărtărescu (2016), The Cancer Sign. Journal 2012-2015 (2017), Disease & War. Journal 2020-2024 (2024). Selections of Radu Vancu’s poetry have been translated into English, German, French, Swedish, Spanish, Italian, Flemish, Bulgarian, Serbian, Hungarian, Turkish, Greek, and Russian.

Ramona Ursu

Ramona Ursu

Ramona Ursu, the communication manager of Romanian Creative Week and the curator of the Creativity Conferences of RCW, is a journalist and writer, irreversibly in love with journalism, since 2001, and with creativity, since… always.

She has worked successively as a reporter at Evenimentul zilei, then served for 9 years as coordinating editor and deputy editor-in-chief within the Adevărul media trust. In March 2018, she co-founded, with other journalists, Newsweek Romania, where she served as senior editor, and since 2020, she has been the editor-in-chief and the publisher of Ziare.com.

In 2022, she founded the opinion and interview platform SunMedia.ro, and in February 2024, with several journalists from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, she founded the online newspaper MediaQuality.ro.

In 2021, she received the “Oscar Berger” Award from the Timișoara Society for „high professionalism, civic spirit, courageous and responsible approach to major themes in Romanian society, and for promoting a spirit of journalistic elegance and good faith”.

Between 2016 and 2019, Ramona published four books, three of which were edited by Humanitas.
