10:00 - 22:00
Exhibition of the finalists of the Call-for-Projects – RFW Platform, from the 5 invited universities: University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca, National University of Arts Bucharest, National University of Arts “George Enescu” Iasi, West University Timisoara, and Technical University of Moldova Chisinau
Atrium-Palas, Iasi, 21-26.05.2024
Starting from the concept of “Couture-à-Porter” and references from the History of Costume – the decades of the 50s and 60s – BA & MA students have each made a proposal for a sketch for a dress with an emphasis on the upcycling method. Each department of the 5 invited universities was sent a box of samples of Freudenberg nonwovens fabrics as starting points for colour and textures. Subsequently, the selected sketches were transposed, using footage sent by Freudenberg. In addition to these materials, pieces from upcycled pieces could also be used.
The working steps were as follows: a video-call was made with RFW-RCW representatives, Freudenberg representatives and teachers from the Fashion Departments of the Universities invited to RFW24; Freudenberg sent a box of samples; the theme was launched by the teachers of the departments; students and master students from any year of study could participate; an internal deadline was set for sending the sketch proposals to an official e-mail; after the deadline, the team of professors of each department decided (taking into account a set of pre-established evaluation criteria) which were the best 5 sketches to be entered in the finalists’ exhibition; once the short-list of 5 sketches was made, Freudenberg sent each finalist a box of footage from which the dresses were transposed.
During RCW, a professional jury will score and decide the winner. The 1500 Euro prize awarded by Freudenberg will be accompanied by support for the creation of a runway collection for the RFW Platform section of Romanian Fashion Week 2025. Judging criteria: compliance with the concept and the indicated decades; originality; tailoring solutions; innovation in terms of suggested interventions on Freudenberg non-woven textile surfaces; modernity; inclusion of a specific technical upcycling process; compliance with the proposed sketch and accuracy of transposition.
Thanks to the juries, the Fashion Departments of the invited universities, the participating BA & MA students, as well as the RFW-RCW, FEPIC, Freudenberg, Palas Mall Iasi teams.
