11:00 — 13:00
Waacking is a dance style born in the 1970s in underground gay clubs in Los Angeles, danced to disco music. It emerged as a form of expression and liberation for the queer community within a restrictive social context, becoming a language of identity, courage, and visibility. The style is strongly influenced by drag culture, glamour, drama, and theatricality, as well as by the energy of disco and classic Hollywood cinema.
During the workshop, we will work on:
– Arms technique – control, speed, and precision
– Footwork – stability, mobility, and fluid transitions
– Posing – developing expressiveness and stage presence
– Musicality – interpreting and embodying the music
– Coordination – integrating arms, legs, and expression into a coherent and confident flow
The workshop is suitable for dancers who want to deepen their technique, as well as for those who wish to explore a style with a strong cultural identity and deep roots in queer culture.
