The “… and Portraits” project signed by Alex Gâlmeanu explores the idea of intimacy through a series of portraits made beyond the classic conventions of studio photography. Rather than an exercise in technique or aesthetics, the works document authentic encounters between photographer and subjects, built around experience, human connection and the unrepeatable moment. The series, developed organically over time, brings together portraits made without a commercial or formal purpose, but from the desire to understand and capture the presence of the other in a deeply personal way.

Alex Gâlmeanu
Alex Gâlmeanu is a Romanian photographer, visual artist and image director. He has been photographing since 1992 and has been working professionally since 1998, having graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest.
His practice spans editorial, fashion and advertising photography, as well as experimental photography, with a constant focus on portraiture and narrative. He is known for the People I Know series, a long-term project dedicated to portraits of personalities from Romania, presented in international exhibitions and contexts, including Bucharest, Paris and Toulouse, as well as for the Anastasia Project. He has exhibited in Romania and in countries such as Poland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Hungary and the United States.
In parallel, he initiated and developed the Museum of Photography, a platform dedicated to research, collecting and contextualizing archival photography, with an interest in the history of the image and its cultural reading.
His works have been published in magazines such as The New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Esquire, GQ and Men’s Health. He has collaborated with brands and companies such as Coca-Cola, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Samsung, McDonald’s, Philips, BBC and Paramount, creating campaigns for local and international markets.
In cinematography, he shot the documentary Spy on the Occasion, which won the UCIN and Gopo awards for best documentary film. He has also produced set photography for film productions associated with international platforms and networks such as Netflix, Sky and Canal+.

Mihai Birtu
Mihai Birtu, with an academic background in interior architecture, has developed his own architectural practice as a framework for investigation, in which the project becomes a tool for mediation between emotion and reason. His curatorial approach privileges the exploration and transposition of his own valences into physical spaces, through interventions supported by an assumed conceptual clarity.
