In a small town in Romania, a group of teenagers learn to cope without their parents who have left for abroad. Forced to become adults too early, they build their own family in a desperate attempt to fill the void. At their center is Flavia, a strong young woman, used to hiding her emotions behind sarcasm, but whose concern for others will make her discover a new meaning.

Lavinia is a real storm. She is impulsive, doesn’t think twice before acting and doesn’t really know how to show her love. But she wants to be a good mother. Her dream of expanding her parental home throws her into a rush of actions and obstacles over four seasons. But, as everything happens under the silent gaze of the nearby river, some things can only be guessed, because they will never be said.

Diary of a Housemaid — a film by Radu Jude
Gianina works as a housekeeper for a wealthy family in Bordeaux. She dedicates herself entirely to taking care of her employers’ son, while her daughter grows up far away from her, in Romania. Christmas is approaching, and Gianina hopes to see her little girl again.
