  Carmen Maftei

Carmen Maftei

Carmen Maftei is a visual artist from Iași, who performs collage /mixed media. She started creating visual art in 1996, when she has also made her debut in the exhibition area, at the French Cultural Center from Iași. Initially, she used the paper-collage style as a medium to express the emotions and oneiric states unleashed after the change of the communist regime in 1989. The beauty and novelty of the collages made in those first years of free expression consist in unfettering the creative grace, previously repressed by the communist space, through collaged images, cut from the first foreign magazines that permeated the Romanian market at that time. Although she followed the traditionalist path of paper collage for a long time, in the past 10 years Carmen Maftei has gone strong into approaching message-collage, mixed media and digital collage, after obtaining a Master’s degree in Photo-Video at the “George Enescu” University of Arts from Iași. The experience accumulated in all these years led, inevitably, to widening her artistic area of expression, thus her works made of collaged objects moving towards the area of visual installations.

Grafo

Grafo

Since completing his visual design studies in Romania and U.K., Dragoș Păvăloi (aka Grafo) has been creating traditional art and new media, reflecting and exploring urban visual aesthetic and artefacts of the 20th century.

Decoding the semiotics of antennas, mast towers and other telecom lines, through a scientific research at the University of Staffordshire, led Dragoș to gain a deep fascination for such omnipresent structures. Loading the roof-scapes in urban settings with metal spike arrays and piercing the horizon in rural surroundings with massive frameworks, the art of Dragoș seeks to raise awareness of the invisible part that technology plays in our tech-driven society.

His work focuses on the dimension, scale, monotony and materiality of hidden-in-plain-sight “industrial sculptures” and modern communication infrastructures and their possible impact on human beings.

Grafo uses a cross-media approach to present the techno-culture hallmarks that empower the super-connected society.

Teodor Buruiană

Teodor Buruiană

Teodor Buruiană is a graduate of the Sculpture specialization at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. For Teodor, the audience plays a dual role in creation, that of inspiration and that of a participant in the artistic act. Thus, his works are inspired by people, by their needs and reactions in various situations. The projects he has developed, including the “Closer to you” project, winner of the THE CREATIVE ONE scholarship in 2023, encompass two major objectives in the field of research he pursues – documenting and utilizing new techniques with the ultimate goal of interaction between the public and the proposed subject.

The complex environment of installation art gives him the freedom to convey unique experiences and feelings to the viewer, through volumetric play and elements of spatial composition. In the artistic process, he seeks to document people’s reactions to various stimuli. Utilizing sounds, colors, movement, visual effects, materials, or involuntary actions, he aims for a better understanding of social contexts, to make translations as relevant as possible for the audience.

Marius Cioroianu/ Bursa The Creative

Marius Coroianu, born on June 11, 1998, in Bacău, first encountered the visual arts in 2019, when he acquired initial knowledge in creating digital images. Over time, he began to explore different methods of visual representation through which he could express himself, later participating in various exhibitions, either in the field of photography or video installations. He is always ready to discover different techniques to elaborate on various subjects related to the general day-to-day plan or personal matters. Although he was oriented towards areas such as mathematics or computer science in the past, the discovery of visual arts changed his perspective, following this artistic career to this day. Nonetheless, the knowledge accumulated in realistic fields helps him in developing the construction of a project, having a logical sequence in its realization.

In 2022, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, specializing in Photography and Computerized Image Processing. He is currently a master’s student at the same faculty, in the Photography and Video Art department.

Valentin Mocanu is a graduate of the Faculty of Theatre, Acting section, at the ‘George Enescu’ National University of Arts in Iași, currently pursuing a master’s degree in Theatre Arts at the same faculty. Passionate about acting, cinema, and photography, he realized the ‘Dogma’ project using simple, even rudimentary technical means, without seeing it as an impediment, as he believes that, above all, film is a direct contact between a fragment of meaning captured in time and an eye that decodes it. Any other artifices that mediate this contact do not significantly alter it.

Currently, she continues her master’s studies in the Product Design department at the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, focusing her research on how design can alleviate anxious states. It is precisely the journey toward finding a solution that fuels her desire for exploration. For her, flexibility, adaptability, and pushing boundaries are necessary elements in creating a solution.

Her main goal is to create and spread empathy, inclusion, and sustainability through her concepts. She aims to find solutions that have a constructive impact on users’ lives and also educate them. Educating the public and users is something that a good design(er) has the power, even the duty, to do, and this is exactly what Ruxandra aims to achieve. She believes that no dream is too bold or unattainable, and where there seems to be no path, she will surely create one.
